560TB Cloud-in-a-Box Receives Microsoft Certification

DataON Uses the HGST 8TB Drive to Extend Capacity for Windows Server 2012 R2 Customers

Anaheim, CA – February 10, 2015 - DataON Storage, the leading provider of OS-agnostic storage enclosures, announces the certification of the Cluster-in-a-Box (CiB) appliance —CiB-9470 V12— for Windows Server 2012 R2 along with the qualification of the HGST Ultrastar® He8 12Gb/s helium 8TB SAS drives. Designed to deliver highly available massive shared storage for software-defined storage technologies, the 70-bay DataON CiB-9470 V12 is poised for high-scale Big Data and cloud ready installations where reliability, storage density, and power efficiency are paramount.

“Working closely with Microsoft, DataON has achieved significant successes with the Cluster-in-a-Box architecture,” says Trenton R. Baker, vice president business development, DataON Storage. “By certifying the 12Gb/s CiB-9470 V12 platform with Windows Server 2012 R2 and qualifying HGST’s 8TB drives, DataON is equipped to deliver a Cloud-in-a-Box appliance with million IOPS performance and highly resilient massive capacity required for mission critical storage applications, while keeping within budget limitations.”

This modular dual-node Cloud-in-a-Box appliance brings scale-out data center storage density with up to ½ petabyte of storage and 12TB of performance-tuned hot-tiering flash storage for data-intensive applications such as Big Data analytics, computational simulation, government intelligence, and medical research. In utilizing the high density of the HGST He8 drive, the DataON CiB-9470 V12 is equipped to leverage smart storage tiering for both structured and unstructured data. Windows Server 2012 R2 with Storage Spaces is precision-engineered to deliver maximum storage performance extraction and with the Microsoft certification of the DataON CiB-9470 V12 appliance this vision will become a reality.

“With Windows Server 2012 R2 and Storage Spaces, you can use SSDs and HDDs to create tiered, highly available storage. This type of storage solution is a cost-efficient way to take advantage of the performance of SSDs and the voluminous capacity of HDDs” said John Loveall, Principal Program Manager for Windows Server, Microsoft. “The DataON CiB-9470 V12 allows for high-density shared storage by combining the availability and manageability features of Windows Server with Cluster-in-a-Box 12Gb/S SAS connectivity, creating a solution for datacenters that supports high-performance shared storage, ideal for large-scale Hyper-V cloud deployments.”

A Cluster-in-a-Box appliance is a fully redundant hybrid storage platform engineered for capacity optimization and performance for scale-out file server (SOFS) block- and file-based applications. The innovative CiB-9470 V12 clustered storage appliance is based on a modular chassis supporting dual Intel® Xeon® processor-based, dual cluster nodes located side-by-side fused with the density of a 70-bay JBOD, to provide tiered shared storage. This 4U chassis is precision-engineered to deliver maximum storage density and performance for customers deploying Windows Server 2012 R2, reducing complex cabling and eliminating lengthy deployment times.

“With billions of users and applications adding to the deluge of data created every day, the ability to efficiently capture the data for deeper insight is now more crucial than ever,” said Brendan Collins, vice president of product marketing, HGST. “By utilizing HGST Ultrastar He8 drives which boast industry-leading storage capacity, industry-leading low power consumption and proven reliability, DataON can provide massively-scalable shared TCO-driven storage.”

As Big Data continues to grow exponentially, cloud hosting and datacenter builders are challenged with defining efficient solutions to extract the maximum value of data in order to gain valuable insight, shorten time to discovery and gain a competitive advantage. The Cluster-in-a-Box platform delivers better performance, data uptime reliability and simplicity, while optimizing the most efficient mix of hybrid media with the implementation of Windows Server 2012 R2. Combined with the HGST Ultrastar® He8, the CiB-9470 V12 cloud-tuned appliance enables IT admins to expand capacity without wasting valuable rack space or adding siloed storage units.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
